The newest social media buzz is about Nollywood actress Iyabo Oko, who was said to have ‘woken up’ three hours after being pronounced dead. Her daughter, Bisi Aisha, first reported her death on social media on Tuesday, 5th January 2022.

The development has elicited conflicting comments on social media, with many claiming that it was a miracle. However, this is not the first time such news has trended, and it is okay to believe in the unusual. However, there is a scientific explanation for someone resurrecting after being declared dead.
There is a medical ailment known as “Lazarus Syndrome.” It refers to the spontaneous resumption of blood circulation or cardiac rhythm after a person has been declared dead. Following the account of Lazarus’ resurrection, the ailment was named after him.
From a medical perspective, a person who suffers Lazarus Syndrome never completely died but rather experienced a short halt in blood circulation or cardiac activity. Although cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is the most effective method of reviving a sufferer, Lazarus Syndrome can also, sometimes resolve on its own after a failed CPR attempt.
However, there is no set time for Lazarus Syndrome to take place, although according to a 2020 research review, it can occur within 10 minutes but is not restricted to that. According to Iyabo Oko’s daughter, her mother began moving after 3 hours, which might be suggested as non-cardiac activity in that period of time.

Recall that multiple reports has it that, veteran actress Kudirat Odukanmi Oluyemi, popularly known as Iyabo Oko, was diagnosed with an ischemic stroke that she experienced before word of her death spread late last night. However, things took a new turn for the best for as her daughter, Bisi Aisha, who had given the heartbreaking news, retracted it and revealed that her mother had moved after being pronounced dead.
Nonetheless, it is heartening news to hear that Iyabo Oko has escaped death, especially given that Nollywood recently lost one of its own, Sam Obiago, just two weeks ago.
