
Chude Jideonwo had a chat with Sola Sobowale, a veteran Nollywood actress and producer, in the course of the interview Sola Sobowale revealed the reason why she left Nigeria for London and the kind of life she lived in London for many years, she also revealed the huge amount she earned as an actress in Nigeria before relocating. She said she left Nigeria to give her children good education abroad.
Sola Sobowale noted that before she left Nigeria for England she was living in Enugu because she shot a movie titled “Christ in me”, so due to her performance in that movie she started getting more movie roles in Enugu she then decided to station herself there. Sola said she might spend one week in one movie location and she would earn N800,000 as at year 2000. She said she was moving from one movie set to another and the money was flowing in but she left all that big money to earn £7.50 per hour in England.
Sola Sobowale noted that there is no type of work she cannot do because she believes that there is dignity in Labour, so she swept, cooked, dusted and did cleaning jobs in England so far it puts food on her table and shelter over her head. She said whenever she is on the train or bus she usually make sure that she wears her uniform with the name of the company she is working for written on it and when Nigerians see her they would be like this can’t be Sola Sobowale, she said she would tell them that she is actually the one and they would ask her what she is doing in London, she said she would also ask them in return what they are also doing there. Sola Sobowale said she made a lot of friends in England and she is glad and happy but all that is history now.
