Popular Nigerian entertainer Denrele Edun has revealed his ordeal over a viral photo of him with veteran entertainer Charly Boy. Speaking on Vanguard, Denrele spoke concerning the origin of the photo and what people did to him due to the photo.
Sharing his ordeal, Denrele said, “It was way before the internet got popular, and we were on the cover of a publication that was published repeatedly.” I remember that I was in Malaysia with some popular Nigerian musicians when the picture got out. People kept sending me the picture, but I did not get what it was. I landed in Nigeria and customs officials harassed me. They went as far as seizing my luggage. Immigration nearly denied me passage. I was concerned about my family, so I sat them down and explained. I did not know if it was a publicity stunt, a controversial agenda, or if it was edited, but I urged my family to deal with it. I did not foresee the development.

He continued, “I was excommunicated from the church over the ‘kiss’ picture with Charly Boy.” I was harassed over the ‘kiss’ picture whenever I went out, but I gradually turned it into a joke by giving sarcastic responses. Charly Boy is well grounded, and I reached out to him. However, Charly Boy told me that it was time to cash in, but I wondered how. I think it was more advantageous for Charly Boy. He is married, he has kids, and he is established. However, I was just starting my career at the time.
