Kunle Afolayan has carved a niche for himself in Nollywood. The quality of his films and the authenticity of his stories distinguish him from the rest. However, what strikes me the most is his inclusive choice of cast in movies.
The thespian regularly features legends and veterans in the movie industry as a mark of honour and to bring to the consciousness of the audience that these veterans still have a lot to offer in the movie industry.
His regular pattern is noticeable in the way he featured Wole Olowomojuore (Babagebu) in Citation, Chika Okpala in Phone Swap, Kayode Ogunsina (Papalolo) and Alabi Yellow in Mokalik, and Kayode Olaiya (Aderupoko) in October 1 and The Figurine.
Apart from the recognition, featuring these experienced actors will also improve their finances in one way or another. Not many filmmakers are willing to feature veterans in the industry.
Most of these veterans do not get invitations to act in films anymore. Filmmaking is not what it used to be in those days. In fact, some veterans are not living the best of their lives at this age.
This is why Kunle Afolayan needs to be commended for bridging the gap between veterans and contemporary actors. Working with these veterans will add to the experience and knowledge of current actors.
